Artisan Spotlight: Meet Windy O’Connor
At Fig & Dove, we collaborate with artisans across the country to offer one-of-a-kind decorative art pieces to our customers. One of our favorite collaborations is with artist and lifestyle brand Windy O’Connor.
Windy O’Connor is an American painter whose work is available as textiles, wallpaper, clothing and home accessories. O’Connor has a degree in Interior Design from East Carolina University and studied studio painting with Andy Braitman from 2011-2014. Her studio and showroom are located in Charlotte, North Carolina.
O’Connor is known for her “Chicas” a series of portraits of women created to communicate the beauty she sees in every person around her through color and abstraction. O’Connor describes her work as being “guided by the notion that life is a pursuit of creating something that brings another person joy and conveys an experience, emotion, memory or person.”
Our team has admired both O’Connor and her work for many years and even commissioned custom “Peace, Love, Fig & Dove” denim jackets to wear at Atlanta Market this year. We have cherished the opportunity to build a relationship with Windy and her team over the years and love offering her work to our customers.
At Fig & Dove, we currently carry 8x8 grasscloth prints of O’Connor’s Penny for your Thoughts Chica, Tropicana Chica, Be Hippie Chica and Mardi Gras Chica. These Chicas are bright and playful and represent the “intricacies, humor, strength and power of women,” that are our “mothers, sisters, friends and history makers.” Styled in an acrylic frame, these prints make a beautiful addition to your walls, bookshelves or coffee or side table.
